Just in general, clearly if you work at 7 you'll do stuff after and if you work 3rd shift you'll probably go to sleep right after

Agreed. Constantly having to watch the clock makes me anxious. After work I only have to worry about if I get enough sleep and its not the end of the world if I stay up a hour or so past when I should.

Definitely after. I knew lots of people who didn't work day shift who loved to sleep right after work. That's not for me. I hated having to do stuff during the day around the time I would normally sleep. But having time before work is worst. For one, like mooreandrew58 said, you started clock watching... Then, I feel like I didn't get enough sleep. And I'm even more tired at work then I feel I would have been had I gone to work after waking up and getting ready for the day. Also, by the time work is over, I usually feel much more awake than before. Meaning I can do a lot. And that I wouldn't really be able to sleep. Especially if aafter work is night...

Yeah. Helps that despite being a rural as fuck area my wallmart is 24/7 so night shift wouldnt get in the way of grocery shopping. Hell getting in and out would be vastly easier too as the store is pretty dead late night and early morning.

Yeah. I have 2 24/7 Wal-marts (one on the north side and the south side). And they are super empty at night. There are people, but nowhere near the amount during the day. It's great!

Yep. It usually goes fast when I shop at night. And don't have to worry about waiting for a super long time.

Really hope I get night shift at my new job. Get paid more and it just fits my normal sleeping schedule better. Night shift there is 6 pm to 6 am though.

Actually to be accurate its 5:30 at the latest till 6 in the morning. Thats the absolute latest they want you reporting for duty there preferably earlier though. So all in all might as well be a 13 hour shift.

I can work longer shifts, but I usually don't unless it's because I have more days off, or if I really need money. Though, if salary, I try to work as little as possible, if possible...

It's not ideal but jobs that aint minimum wage or require a degree out here are scarce. Workers are fighting to get shorter shifts though I hope they succeed. Not just for my sake but states sake as well cause most people dont wanna work hours like that and they are shorthanded as hell so they need to do things to make the job more appealing

I feel the same. I want to get work done and over with at the start of my day.

If I have to make an appointment during business hours (I work 7:30AM-4PM), I will go out of my way to schedule it in the afternoon, around 2:30 or later so I leave work and call it a day. I really dislike having an appointment in the morning that is my first obligation AND THEN I go to work.

My worst nightmare would be having to leave work, take care of a personal obligation, and then go BACK to work. Once I leave work at any point during the day, I do not want to return.

Yeah. That would suck to be more short-handed then you already are. It can be hard to get what you want. Or to find a happy compromise...

Before. Everything closes early after most jobs let out, then everyone is rushing to do things before dinner, it's just an unneccessary hustle IMO. If I get a few hours before work, I can go run errands in relative peace and quiet when places first open.

Really sucks in this line of work cause the job is considered essential and if someone calls off they can nake you stay. Brother pulls 16 hour shifts all the time. Not to mention being short handed makes it a more dangerous job

Depeding on your job or what time you go, a lot of place might not be open yet. Same can be said for certain hours after work, as well. But for many normal jobs, things aren't always open after...

Yeah. For that job, being tired can end up being bad for everyone... Well, you and your co-workers, at least...

This. I could wake up at 7 and have nowhere to go until 7 PM, and dread every second of my day until the 7PM obligation is done. I prefer to have nothing following my free time that isn't sleep, unless I'm classifying the free time as a break.

After, for sure.
When I first started working night shift I would wake up around 2pm, then go into work from 9pm until 5am, go to sleep right after. Always felt like I couldn't do anything before work and I'd end up just sitting around waiting to go in. Last few years I did the opposite, wake up at 8 and go straight in, then have from 6am-12pm to fuck around. Worked out way better.

Chores and errands before work, fun stuff on days off or when I'm off work.
I like working closing retail shifts, leaving my mornings kinda open. It's nice getting stuff done when I have the energy. Doing chores after work is like having more work for me, so I'd rather do it more leisurely in the morning.
I'm not one to want to do much though. I read before work for pleasure and game/TV after work.

After, by far.

I'm a teacher, so I have lots of work to do outside of work hours (lesson planning and marking in particular). I have little motivation to do these things after work, so I've adapted to getting up around 5:30am and doing that work in the morning, before actually going to work, so that when the school day is over I can go home and relax.
