What strikes me as odd is that Ive never seen a sealed copy of a game like that go for much more than 1000 or so, unless it was exceptionally rare. And typically its just in the high hundreds. Kid Icarus also never struck me as a game with a strong following. Cursory Google shows sealed copies of Earthbound barely breaking 3K. Idk. I don't get why the provenance matters so much. It says that is part of why collectors will value it so much. So he found it in a JC Penny bag in the attic, therefore it's worth more, or am I misunderstanding what they mean by provenance here?
