It's odd, I never considered the idea that the deaf talk to themselves like the rest of us do. It's not quite as discreet though.

And I don't mean crazy person talking g to imaginary friends. She's a regular here, not crazy. She just looking at the events calendar on the wall and working things out with a confused look on her face.

Oh, I don't know sign language. But I do recognize it when people are using it.

Not every person that's deaf was born deaf. Maybe it's an old habit from before...

That'd be my guess, plus it'd be a bit on the loud side because she wouldn't have the feedback we'd normally get. She may also have enough hearing to be able to hear herself, depending on the exact nature of her impairment.

Loud? She was talking to herself with sign language. She was looking at the blown up calendar and signing her thoughts at the wall in front of her. Pointing at dates, signing some more, making faces, etc. All quite silent.

Edit: I see that I didn't specifically state that in the OP. My bad.

Eh? Is that one of those internet jokes that I'm not cool enough to be in on? Should I be looking up for a "woosh"? Because I've known that was a word for a very long time.

Huh. Interesting. It's strange for me to think of somebody thinking in sign language, since I see it completely as being a representative of English instead of its own discrete language, but I guess it makes sense when signing is one's primary language.

Shame.
Still perhaps they "hear" the voice in their heads life everyone and they still feel the sensation of talking. I see nothing wrong with talking to yourself providing you know you're doing it.

Neither do I. It was just one of those "huh..." moments to see a deaf person talking to themself in sign language. And really, it makes sense. Especially if she has always been deaf. She doesn't really have the words to think them in her head like we do. I guess she could picture the hand signs in her head, but doing them would likely be second nature after awhile.
