how do you track what needs your attention and what doesn't? i feel like i would constantly forget to follow-up on things if i left everything unread.

Overwhelming majority of my unread stuff is just spam/mailing lists. I tend to just keep important emails in the back of my mind.

I have emails just for signing up for stuff and those fill up too fast to read. Lately though I've started just making throwaway emails for each new service that requires it to be a little more secure.

I read everything in my school and work email.

I have a Facebook account, so I get spam emails by the boatload.

I even have an account not just for spam but just for Facebook spam which I have not looked at in many years.

My old boss used to do this. He would flag any emails that were things that actually applied to him. He could ve just unsubscribed from a bunch of shit but whatever.

Gmail does a great job at this by filtering all of that stuff to the "Promotions" tab.
