https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RubpESZgosM" data-time="

1st: Michael Jordan
2nd. Mike Trout
3rd: Barry Bonds

How did your favorites do? Were there any surprises? Who went our too soon? Who stayed in too long? Would you like to see another Athletes edition in the future?

Thanks to everyone who participated!

The poll for my next save that will be up on Wednesday the 19th. And nominations for that topic will go up either the 26th or 27th of December.

Thanks again!

That was fun. I'm happy that a lot of my favorites made at least the top 25, I'm happy about how strongly baseball was represented (including my boy Ken Griffey Jr.) in the high finishers, and I'm happy that we saw at least a couple of pro wrestlers do well. Overall, it was a great contest with an absolutely deserving winner. He wasn't one of the guys that I was supporting with saves, but I have absolutely no complaints with Michael Jordan winning this. He's the GOAT for a reason.

One thing I was surprised about was that there was pretty much zero vote trading in this contest. I don't know if it's because this contest stayed at 2 saves to advance for a while (it felt like the bump up to 3 saves to advance came much later than in past contests) or because people simply weren't as passionate about seeing their specific pick winning it all, but the lack of vote trade offers flying around made this contest feel really different from some of the past ones. I don't know if it was better like this or not.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing what the theme of the next Save That contest will be.

It stayed at 2 saves longer then I wanted as I noticed there were only a handful of posters voting for a while so I had to alter rule change rounds a bit.. RPG characters definitely got a lot more traffic than athletes did.

The only surprises for me were how early Tiger Woods went out. Guess there aren't a lot of golf fans here, and I thought for sure Jackie Robinson was going to win this, but Michael Jordan is a great winner, and once Jackie got out was my next pick.

The entire top 30 was only athletes from the four major North American pro sports, along with a couple of pro wrestlers. The other sports, whether it was golf, tennis, boxing, or whatever, really didn't stand a chance.

Fair enough. It did feel like there were less voters overall, and that the ends of rounds (after people had saved all of their favorites) were dragging on. I remember when I had to end a round by flipping a coin to pick who to save because no one had posted for like two hours.

Nice! Glad a basketball player one.

But I don't think wrestlers should be included if you do another one since they don't compete.

Great contest. Not my pick, but the right man won.

Bullshit. Scripted or not, it takes an incredible amount of athleticism to put on the matches and perform the moves that they do. Pro wrestlers are absolutely considered athletes, and if you're implying that they're not athletes, then any normal non-athletic human should be able to do these...

I just thought of an idea to suggest for a future contest: Save That Robot.

Between real-life robots (like those Boston Dynamics robots or BattleBots competitors), TV/movie robots (like daleks or droids), anime robots (like gundams or other mecha) and various androids and cyborgs, we have tons of ideas to work with.

That word in bold is the only one that matters. Being real or scripted doesn't matter. Doing it for competition or entertainment doesn't matter. They are athletes doing athletic feats for a living, therefore they belong in a save that athlete contest.

Not really a fan of the save contests, but I am happy to see baseball dominate the top 10. Only reason I voted was because I saw Trout in the final. Glad he is well respected because he deserves it.

My picks went out fairly quickly if I missed a round or when it got to multiple votes. Not too surprising. Ah well. Still knew some of the people as we whittled them down and Jordan as winner is nice.
