This game likely has a smaller budget than both Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. It's meant to be a AA game.

Never heard of it before and I have no real attachment to Obsidian. Only FO games I've played were 3 and NV. I actually couldn't make it to three hours in NV because it was so god damn buggy on pc.

The issue with 76 is Zenimax clearly rushing it to release. There's no way the actual developers didn't know it wasn't ready.

This has publisher fuckery written all over it. I hope they get the time they need to fix it because the game is actually good.

Fallout 76 is a project that came about from trying to implement multiplayer into Fallout 4. This lead to expanding that concept across to another development studio who had to figure out how to implement multiplayer into an engine designed for single player RPG's.
So you've got Bethesda Game Studios who have no experience developing a multiplayer game and you've got Bethesda Austin who only have experience working on a cancelled F2P multiplayer game working on Fallout 76. On top of that I'm sure they were expected to release the game before the end of the year with the expectation that they can fix it later.

The December 6 trailer clearly stated Xbox One, PS4 and Steam.
That was almost a month after Microsoft announced that they own Obsidian.

Obsidian's next game will be under the Microsoft banner so we won't really know how they'll go after this one. I hope it's good as I said because it's likely the last "Obsidian game" we ever see.

Gameplay looks pretty decent. I wish they'd display the LV of the enemy you're fighting, but maybe that's just my Borderlands sense tingling.

It was always niche to be honest. Original Sin 2 is an outlier.

I saw some video where someone theorized that Todd and Bethesda probably want to make a new engine, but since all the stuff on their current engine has been selling *so well* (till 76 at least) it couldn't be justified to the higher ups at Zenimax.

They also theorize that Fallout 76 may have been a move by Todd to get a bigger team for Star Field/Elder Scrolls 6 that hilariously backfired on him.

My theory is that Fallout 76 started as an unannounced Fallout 4 DLC.
But since it wasnt covered by the Season Pass, they thought that it would create too much negative critic so they turned it into a new game.
...which they could charge more for...
