* Inventory management: The ability to customize your character's performance, ideally both in and out of combat scenarios, using items acquired during the game, generally going beyond different weapons.

* Skill progression: Improvement in character performance at a variety of tasks not strictly driven by player skill.

* Meaningful world interaction: Gameplay that leads to multiple different potential non-game over outcomes depending on player choices, with the player's choice determining the outcome and that outcome impacting the rest of the game in some nontrivial way
