GTA 5 was released basically when PS4 came out. If the trends continue, PS5 should be released in 2020, theoretically.

GTA 5 was announced two years before it came out. To my knowledge, there has been no announcement yet about GTA 6.

I think GTA6 is at least 3 years away and that's probably being generous. At this rate it'll probably be next gen.

Crazy to think that we probably won't see a new GTA or numbered Elder Scrolls game this generation.

Dumb question, Rockstar takes a long time to develop their games. I personally think that is why their games are always great. Enough times passes for people to really want the next one.

I think they'll be content to rake in RDR online money for a few years.

Just for comparison, RDR II was announced in October 2016, but at the time scheduled for a 2017 release.

Rockstar has gone on record saying its prolly gonna be a long while until the next GTA, because releasing it in the current social climate would be career suicide for the studio

Definitely ps5, at least

These days we have GTA Online as well as RDR Online so we can't really use those timeframes anymore.
Look at it this way.

Between 1997 and 2007 we had 11 different GTA games. Between 2008 and 2018 we've had 3. 5 if you include the GTAIV expansions as separate games.

Still, though, we're on the 5th year. And theoretically PS5 will be in 2020/2021.

That is true, but think of it from a selling and developing standpoint.

If the next GTA is an early PS5 release--- will it sell at lot? From my perceptions, PS4 was sort of slow out of the gate. But everyone had a PS3, so big sales for GTA 5.

How long does it take for a developer to make a game for a console that hasn't been released yet? Presumably GTA 6 has already been in the works.

I think they're shooting for next gen with GTA VI

Most rumors say that the next game they're going to release is Bully 2. We'll be lucky to get that in the next 2 years if they have been working on it in tandem with RDR2 and it doesn't hit development issues.

It is entirely possible that it will be cross gen or something similar too, though.

Here is the thing, they just got done with RDR2. A few years minimum until GTA 6.

This though I hope that was all BS talking to throw us off. I can't make sense of their reasoning.

They're still making enough money off of GTA Online that it would make no sense financially to invest in a new game at this point.

From the sound of it they haven't even begun working on it yet, maybe not even in the planning stages. So... another 3-4 years at least probably.

GTAV has literally never stopped selling since release. It's currently the 9th best selling game of 2018. It has sold over 100 million copies. That's not because of the 360 and PS3. That's more than what the PS3 and 360 each sold lol.

They might lose out on double dippers but I don't think it matters too much. GTA is now a game that is a default purchase for a new system regardless. They'll probably just release one a decade and watch the money roll in.

I'm sure they're working on it. Just like Bethesda are working on Elder Scrolls 6.

But until they start dedicating a significant amount of resources for it (which is probably starting to happen now since RDR2 is done) it's still a long way away. Especially since the resources to make these Rockstar Games have ballooned and will continue to keep getting bigger.

Kotaku often do big stories where they get developers to leak behind the scenes stories from a games development. Often during these stories they often leak out what they're working on next because these developers are often breaking NDA's anonymously anyway.

They did one of his year for RDR2 and as far as I remember nothing about GTA6 was said. But the interesting thing here is that Rockstar pulled an unusual move and gave everyone permission to speak about what it was like developing RDR2 after the crunch controversy.

I always thought that was strange. But it hit me that an incentive would be that they would be able to give developers an avenue to vent to the press without breaking NDA's. Perhaps an attempt for Rockstar to allow their employees to talk about whatever they want except that they're working on GTA6.

Just a theory but I wouldn't put it past them.
