He says he hate the game because it discourages you from playing it like a cover shooter, while simultaneously says he doesn't want the game to be a cover shooter.

It was the dumbest/funniest shouting contest I've been in all year.

Which is what I kept trying to explain but he says that since it takes that option to play it as a cover shooter away, it's a flaw in the gameplay.

And I would say, "So you want it to be a cover shooter?"
Him: "No. I just want the option to play it like a cover shooter."
Me: "But it's not a cover shooter and the game rewards you for being creative with all your abilities."
Him: "So the game FORCES you to be creative and play it that way, right?"
Me: "It doesn't take away the option of being a cover shooter, you're just going to have a harder time if you try to play it like a traditional cover shooter and not use your abilities."
Him: "So it IS forcing you to play one way!?"
Me: "It just discourages you for playing like a traditional cover shooter and not taking advantaging of everything you have."
Him: "AND THAT'S BAD!"

The argument started with us discussing BioShock: Infinite. We both liked the game but I was explaining how I thought the game was a huge step down from the first game gameplay wise.
He disagreed and said the first game's gameplay was too "clunky" and that Infinite's was better because it was challenging throughout.

I asked him what he meant by "clunky" and that's what lead to the argument.

If anything, you didn't get to use your entire breadth of abilities enough imo. Some of the really kooky ones, like the bees plasmid, you get way too late into the game. I really hate it when games do that, like how Earthbound only gave you PSI Starstorm right at the final stretch of the game

Bioshock 1 was pretty easy, it's the only game I've ever played where I beat it and went to go back and try it again on hard mode, only to find that I already had it on hard mode the entire time and I forgot about it
