Now they should admit they messed up Marvel and they honestly don't give a fuck about either, it's not like anyone else can do anything about it.

They also fucked up copyright and ownership in general. Fuck Disney tbh.

Many believe Disney should pump the breaks and not put out a Star Wars movie each year.

I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made I take the blame was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn't mean we're not going to make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven't been specific about. And we are just at the point where we're going to start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.'s. But I think we're going to be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.

the timing is the biggest issue, I think
a lot of people want Star Wars to not be an every year sort of deal, and I think they're half right in the sense that we need more variety. we have had 4 Disney films in the last 3 and a half years and they've all featured main characters from the other six. we need to go further out in a big galaxy
Also, Solo should have stayed at Christmas instead of being brought up to May

I mean it's a bit generous to say that he's saying they "messed up Star Wars"

but I think a slowdown would be nice. They tried to do too much too fast with the current slate of films.

I've said for the last year or two, that they really don't know what they have here. They're not utilizing the franchise to its fullest potential

Def noticed the first 2 films were better, at least TLJ. They aren't quality but eh, good movies to see in a theater.

Star wars doesn't need a movie every year. Lucas didn't get rich off ticket sales.

You just need to pump toys and other shit nerds buy 24/7

Once a year was fine if it was consistent and they didn't piss of the fan base.

It's not hard to not piss them off, but they intentionally made decisions / missteps in that direction.

Eh, there was a huge gap between the Originals and the Prequels, people still hate on the latter constantly, same again with the time between the PT and the new movies.

People aren't gonna suddenly start liking the movies because of an arbitrary amount of time between them, it's never worked for the franchise in the past. Meanwhile, Marvel gets 3 movies a year and still going strong.

Maybe people just don't like Star Wars that much.

It helps with casuals. Funny enough you get more of them in seats if you make it a spectacle. Solo was just another star wars movie so they didn't care

Nerds have been turned off by how they handled the characters. This won't help win them back.

Most Soccer Mom's are not that gullible to buy Star Wars Merch other than for their kids.

They won't buy excess merch for themselves.

Who are they really fooling other than themselves!?!?

I'm really not a fan of Marvel's new episodic approach. I really don't give a shit about every single marvel character and can't be bothered to follow all the stories to keep up with some popular movie.

Up to a point, casuals only care about Star Wars up to a degree, they definitely rarely buy merch.

Nowhere near the repeat customers of real star wards nerds.

Solo was just another star wars movie so they didn't care
And it's going to hurt them financially as one of their costliest endeavors with crap on return value and permanent damage to their brand

Nerds have been turned off by how they handled the characters. This won't help win them back.
Exactly, it's permanent damage.

I really don't give a shit like you seem to. Star Wars is pretty far from my favorite universe or story. I was just commenting on an obvious marketing ploy and if you can't see it then congrats, you're exactly the demographic the marketing people were trying to sell new Star Wars to.

Part of the problem is Disney homegenizing everything they crank out. The Disney Star Wars movies feel less like Star Wars and more like Marvel movies with a thin Star Wars flavored shell . I'm waiting for them to announce that Star Wars is actually part of the MCU. They figured out the formula for generating billions of dollars on every movie they put out and they're going to milk it until it runs dry.

And better books/comics

Basically every EU property they've come out with in the last 4 years is about the gap between III and IV

It's boring and overdone. do some new shit

Maybe people just don't like Star Wars that much.

The real problem is that it's still a "boys" franchise, regardless of any and all attempts otherwise, and boys don't want the girl action figures.
Also toy sales in general have dropped off a cliff, as kids just want play on tablets nowadays, and charge $10000 worth of gems or whatever on mommy's credit card.

They're slacking like crazy in every area except films tbh

One (meh) animated series, a paltry selection of books, mediocre comics (again mostly just taking place between 3 and 4), and like 2 video games since they took over the franchise almost 6 years ago

it's frankly embarrassing

Audiences reject the prequel era with the heat of a thousand suns, demands Star Wars be more like the OT.

Disney focuses exclusively on the OT, audiences get quickly bored, demand more variety.

I know it's not that simple and that Disney could have played this much better, but I enjoy the irony.

this, there is absolutely no flavor to the new star wars movies, no sense of scale, really no ambition other than to take star wars properties established 40+ years ago and reuse them to reap in the billions
