Board 8 > Really digging Spider-Man!

It's very much an Arkham inspired Spidey game with the open world type stuff that previous Spider-Man games had but it's super well polished and incredibly fun to play. There's also some character action game influence in the combat with launchers into air combos and off the wall attacks. I'm still pretty early in the game so I can see the combat getting more depth as you get upgrades - there's a way yank enemies back into the air to keep air combos going which sounds neat.

Web swinging is incredible, probably the best it's ever been. You can cover so much ground so fast if you're good, but you do have to actually pay attention to where and how you're swinging. No attaching weblines to clouds here.

There's a ton of suits available in the game and they each seem to have their own unique super, but the supers aren't locked to the suits and can be swapped around. Unlocking the suit unlocks the super. For instance I'm rocking the game's default suit with the white spider but I swapped its default power for the Iron Spider arms.

The amount of Spider-Man fanservice (and to a lesser extent Marvel fanservice) is off the charts.

My backlog is pretty bad too but I've been making a dedicated effort to get through it for the past two months or so. DQXI got pushed back for me because of said backlog (lots of JRPGs already) since I figured out of the two Spidey would easier to get through.

I only played for a few hours last night (hooray for the longest download ever when I popped the disc in) but it is totally awesome. Web slinging is fun. The combat is challenging and really pushes you. I'm excited to see the game totally open up.

Just finished the opening mission. Really fun so far! I can already tell this might cause me some hand cramps just from rapid button pressing, but it'll be totally worth it.

I've been doing all the side missions as soon as I unlock them too. The challenges are haaaaaard.

What I'm happy about most in this game is how so far they've managed to bring stuff from lesser known parts of Spidey's lore like Yuri Watanabe and Mister Negative. It's actually really nice to have them be focused in this game as much as they have been, because I don't think they've been in much of anything before. I'm still in the early-ish part of the game, but I'm sure there will be more obscure stuff in this as well.

Kudos to Christos Gage for his writing of this game. I've always really enjoyed his Spider-Man stuff.

I played far enough to get the advanced suit and the ability to make more suits then went around and hit every tower. I have about half of the backpacks but I love that each one gets a little description.

Also, villain designs are on point in this game.

Shocker looks absolutely awesome in this game. They managed to update the quilt and make him look genuinely awesome.

Mister Negstive's effects also look really, really good. Love what they did with him.

I'm sure as I get further the rest will be outstanding too.

I got it. Drove to Best Buy right before it closed. I started playing today and I'm sort of struggling with all the controls, but the first mission was fun anyway.

So I'm not done with this yet, but I'm willing to say this is basically the perfect Spider-Man game. It makes me so happy to play this and I love everything about this. It gets the characters perfectly (which it should because Christos Gage is really good at writing him) and it manages to just make Spider-Man the quipping badass he always is. I see the finishers all the time and I still lose my shit when I see them because they just look so cool. I love the little things put in like "cameos" from other characters that are just stories or funny lines or gags. And J. Jonah Jameson is a delight to listen to each time he pops up.

The only thing is I don't really enjoy MJ too much. Like, she's super capable and I really like that, but she kinda comes across as a bit Mary Sue-ish and she gets on Peter's case sometimes for being concerned when she does stuff that should honestly be impossible for her to do. Maybe she gets more development later on though that makes it better?

I mean, Miles is way more of a Mary Sue than MJ is. At least with her, you can assume she's been doing similar sort of things for years just by being around Spider-Man.
