I know a bunch of you, but I'm sure I'll still learn something.

Still learning a bunch with my 6 week old. Love her too death but boy she doesn't sleep unless she's being held or in her swing.

Then randomly for like 4 hours at night.

Congrats Shad! It will get better but there is variety between each kid. My son started sleeping through the night at 3 months but my daughter sleeps only 3 hours at a time at night.

Yo Shad you're a Dad now? That's cool.

I don't miss those sleepless nights but I feel for you man. I had 4 kids in all so I got a little experience. No experience with girls though since I had all boys.

I'm betting you'll still be just as excited as I was though when they are grown out of diapers. :P

I've got four daughters.

Some parents swear by swaddling. Didn't work for our kids, but a white noise machine did. At least for our youngest. It does get better over time. Sometimes you have to try different things to see what works. Parenting is trial and error.

I do know one thing for sure though dude. You gotta be extra careful about letting the kids learn to sleep under those conditions or you'll be stuck holding her forever just so she can sleep.

I would suggest that you find a way to lay her down after she falls asleep so that she can get used to sleeping without being held.

Sometimes they do need the compression so either you could swaddle her nice and tight or I would even recommend some nights in a car seat if you got one.

I know for my kids they liked the car seat every now and then because they were strapped in. It's a security thing really but it calmed them down.

And since you are asking for advice about the sleeping patterns of a baby, you definitely gotta make sure you are never quiet! One of the biggest mistakes I see some parents make is that they think they need to be super quiet while the baby is sleeping. This is a mistake though because if they get used to sleeping when it is quiet damn near everything will wake them up.

You can easily fix this though by leaving a tv on near the crib or wherever you have her sleeping. Definitely trust me on that.lol

Otherwise you will find yourself in a situation that even talking while she's sleeping will disturb her and make her stir.

Swaddling worked for like a week for us. She just struggles against it now, so we use sleep sacks instead.

Um... I thought you were. You were asking about what makes them sleep were you not?

My brother was a huge dick and would only sleep while held and when our parents were standing. The they sat down, if it they didn't change their upper body position at all, he'd wake up and start crying.

Nah, no harm no foul.

It'll be nice in a few weeks when we start trying to get sleeping in the crib started. But our pediatrician (and the book she gave us) has stressed that habits don't start until 2 months.

Congrats man. This might mean you are becoming an old-timer btw. :P

It's interesting that I have been around here long enough to see many others have kids. It's about time though. My youngest kid is turning 11 in 3 weeks. Back when I had my 15 y/o hardly anyone here had kids.
