We've all heard the stories of someone who's used this excuse when they switched schools or something and didn't want to hang out with their pals any more, but I'm wondering if this is something you've ever encountered an adult doing.

I worked with a girl once who had an abusive boyfriend that we worked with. She told everyone she was moving and then hopped on facebook and wrote something to one of her friends to the effect of "I just did that make him think I left." And the guy was on the person's timeline so of course he saw it. Dumb dumb dumb!

I haven't kept up with her but I know she got a restraining order. But I've always felt like a piece of paper isn't going to stop somebody if they really wanted to do something.

I don't know anyone that faked moving away, but as we speak my wife and I are "spring cleaning", which is a cover for quietly packing our stuff to move to another state to get away from her mother. She (suddenly, without warning or permission) moved into our house several months ago because she had nowhere else to go, and has been abusive to me and manipulative to my wife and daughters. Her goal is to get me thrown out of a house that I own.

It's actually easier to move away than evict her, because she will go fucking psycho and probably make up some lie to get me arrested (a threat that she has made before), and since I'm a convicted felon and she's a "pillar of the community", it's pretty obvious how that will go.

TLDR: Wife and I are abandoning our home in secret to get away from crazy Mother-in-law.

The house is paid in full. Property taxes are next to nothing. We are going to shut off all utilities on our way out of town. My wife has already secured a better job 6 hours away. We will start there in a crappy apartment for 2-3 years until we save up a 50% down payment on a new better house. We do 50% down because that saves a ton of money long-term and we can pay it off quickly. We paid 60% down on this house and paid in full in 4 years, while doubling the value with repairs and upgrades, I did 75% of the labor myself. We will follow the same plan there.

I know this guy who went to Yemen to fool his girlfriend. He told her that he had to go there for work as was going to be gone a while. I kind of felt bad for the girl.

I recommend you speak to a lawyer before doing this. There's a good chance it could count as an illegal eviction.

We do that by not buying anything extra ever, cutting every expense possible, beans/rice, etc. My cell phone is over 5 years old. Our TV is a Sony rear projection TV built in 1999. I repair it myself. I fix my own car, I bake my own bread, I grow most of our food. The only new clothes that I have bought in the last two years are socks/underwear. It's not an easy way to live but my wife will retire in security (I won't live that long, chronic illness).

Some will call this being cheap, but being "cheap" costs more in the long term, because cheap wears out quickly. I call it efficient, because we buy quality and take care of it. We don't waste anything, and repair instead of throwing away. It's not easy to learn to live this way, but it gets easier. Keep in mind that this was the standard way of life just a century ago.

That still sounds kind of uncomfortable lol. Like if he needed some paperwork or something I'd have bought a plane ticket to Yemen with a connecting flight in the UK or Germany or something and just hang out there instead.
