just started it and not sure what to think, so I'm curious what I'm in for

I played Human Revolution a long time ago and never finished it and barely remember it (though I vaguely remember liking the gameplay and not the story)

starting it was pretty boring. About 5 long cutscenes to one scene of actual gameplay, boring and convoluted plot about government conspiracy or something and how people are racist against nerds like Adam with sunglasses built into their heads

And honestly by the time the first gameplay scene and first handful of cutscenes were done the game was quickly losing me, but then it puts me in Adam's apt., lets me kill a civilian outside and break into my neighbor's house who is apparently a cultist and jump between ledges and IS THIS DISHONORED?!?

after slogging through all the boring introduction stuff I've now spent like an hour scouring Adam's apartment complex (though admittedly, not much tangible stuff has come from it beyond an added sidequest and me getting to throw an unconscious person down four stories (for them to still be alive at the bottom)

Its oppression metaphors were incoherent and non-commital, and stuff like "augs lives matter" and "mechanical apartheid" was incredibly tone-deaf, but I enjoyed playing it. The levels were bigger, more vertical, and more open-ended compared to HR, and the new augs were fun. The bank, in particular, was a lot of fun to crack open and loot. I also really liked Prague as the hub city.

The side missions were more engaging than the main plot. The vagueness of the game's metaphors worked better in those smaller vignettes that were less concerned with big statements, and more on people. There's one in particular where you play detective, and that should have been the whole game.

No Deus Ex game has surpassed the original, but Mankind Divided is pretty enjoyable. There are some good story elements but it's definitely not amazing as a whole. If you enjoy the gameplay, it should be fun enough to play through though.

How paralyzingly dull, boring and tedious!

I played a good amount of it. I enjoyed my time with it, but nothing that happened really stuck with me.
