can't reply to your lowest level comment because it's too embedded, but: You are being absolutely ridiculous, you are trying to tell a native adult english person that they are wrong. I know my own language. You're literally trying to nitpick some absolute bs, and it's just completely false. Is English even your first language? You are actually just being completely ignorant, I am having to actually restrain myself to not just launch a tirrade of insults at you at this point because you're being so stubborn over a point on which you're completely, fundamentally wrong.

He's making an argument that "In my arms I have a cat" is just as natural sounding as "I have a cat in my arms".

Definitely does not flow as smoothly as the latter but there's not really anything wrong with the former.

Can we have the comment he's replying to?

His original comment: I put "In my arms I have a cat" and it was rejected.

COME ON.

Response: "in my arms" at the beginning of the sentence sounds strange.

His response:
Maybe to you. Sounds completely normal to me, I'm english.

In my garage I have a car.

In my cupboard I have some sweets.

In my arms I have a cat.

Literally one of the first sentence structures you learn as a child:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hx52p-E3O0" data-time="

Then he followed up with:

Like literally, just grabbing articles from the past 24 hours.

"In the Robot Kit there's a robot kit" https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-05-04-nintendo-labo-review-an-ingenious-and-generous-cardboard-triumph

"in the neighbourhood, there's a warehouse" https://www.domain.com.au/news/theres-a-sense-of-realness-marrickville-the-cultural-heart-of-sydneys-innerwest-20180504-h0z02x/

"In the training room there's a neonatal incubator" https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0550prn/p055001c

I don't know why I have to prove this, people are so weird about adding corrections in this section, it's like everyone speaks some weird rigid version of american english or something.

His argument is based on the phrase "there is", which shifts the subject of the sentence which is what makes it sound weird imo.

A third party just came to post:

I believe that <Me>'s last post was referring to what the Russian sentence says, not to your English sentences syntax itself. Your English is correct. Your English translation of a Russian sentence is wrong. One might consider editing ones post, which appears to have overreacted slightly.

His response to that:

The correct answer to this question is "I have a cat in my arms" I wrote "In my arms I have a cat". It's literally just two clauses rearranged, what a vapid post, read the tree.

tbh I stopped responding but his reaction was so over the top.

Also FWIW... https://www.softschools.com/examples/grammar/the_adjective_phrase_examples/85/

A prepositional phrase that's used as an adjective phrase follows the thing it modifies (in this case it would be the cat)...

HMM, where will I ever find examples of that? How about the three news articles I already linked yesterday, from the BBC website, and from eurogamer lol. How about the first line of the Bible, the most famous book of all time? "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" How about the first line of The Hobbit? "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit". What about the first line of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie? What about the first line of A River Runs Through It by Norman McClean? What about the first line of The Pearl by John Steinbeck? Can you stop being wrong now please? I know you're really good at it but we're running out of space here.

My response: Those are arguably adverb phrases, not adjective phrases.

Do you know when to give up? Can I just ask, is English your first language? If not, you have some real nerve trying to edge-case your way into telling someone that very basic English is wrong instead of just accepting that your knowledge of the language is flawed when a native explains it to you, links you many articles, explains the grammatical syntax and even has to cite famous books at you. "Arguably those are adverb phrases and not adjective phrases, though..." What are you even talking about. "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit" [locative subordinate clause] [main clause] "In my arms I have a cat" [locative subordinate clause] [main clause] On top of that, what's even funnier is, look how The Hobbit subverts your original comment of "Subject-verb-object :\". How about you seriously stop commenting here, rarely in my life have I seen someone be simultaneously so stubborn and so wrong on something laughably basic. Like, laughably basic, this is pathetic child level english for 5 year olds. Any small child can tell you you're wrong.
