I had this brilliant idea to install the older version (which actually did work though all the documentation I've seen says it's not compatible with 10) and then try to upgrade it to 7.1 but that failed.

It's this stupid 7.1 installation file I swear.

Trying to get System Shock 2 to work

Should be easy with the GOG release right? And new Steam release?

I e-mailed the developers. I am half expecting "did you restart your computer".

They responded to my request for help.

Hello John:
It you have AC 6.2 up and running on your PC you have no real reason to
switch to AC 7.1. They provide the same service just using a different
architecture. AC 6.2 is more self-contain where 7.1 relies more on the
system. In your case some of those system services don't seem to work as
expected. They are usually started when Windows detects a smart card for
the first time. You may want to restart with a smart card inserted and see
if it makes a difference. If it does not it means that your system is
corrupted in some way. The main culprit is usually the service: "Certificate
Propagation". If it is not running you may want to start it manually and see
what is happening.

1. My name is not "John".
2. 7.1 is the version specifically compatible with newer versions of Windows, including 10. Nowhere is 6.2 advertised as being compatible with 10 (or at least fully compatible).
3. Even if it DOES operate on 10, it does not have all the advertised functionality that 7.1 does.

I guess they at least gave one potential solution... Just really half-assed service.
