I've honked three times in the past week at drivers doing dangerous and illegal stuff, but I'm wondering if that actually does anything to get the other driver to think about what they were doing, or if they just blow it off / it makes them angry?

I honk at bad drivers, but often, they don't even notice it, or just flat out ignore it. I had someone cut me in a parking lot before and I held the horn for a good 5 seconds, they never aknowledged it.

I feel like it has the potential to cause or lead to road rage, though. Have you ever experienced that?

Meh. Normally honking is supposed to be useful to warn someone of a danger. Like someone is backing up and doesn't seem to have seen you so you honk to warn them that you're there and they're about to hit you. But most people don't use it for that purpose.

Not personally. I've been in the car when someone has directed read rage at my mom before though. Scary stuff.
So far? Ive only had road rage when someone yelled out their window at my brother and I calling us a derogatory term for gay guys. We yelled back, they got out the car, it was a shot situation.

Wow that is shitty.

I've only experienced it personally on a business trip in Germany - the guy that was driving our van didn't let this truck driver get over and when the driver did get over, our driver laid on the horn. The German driver got really pissed, slammed on the breaks, got out and started yelling at us. The guy driving doesn't know German but I was in the back seat laughing >_>.

Oh and two people in one car flipped me off because I "didn't let them over" even though we were both in lanes that went forward and they had made zero indication they wanted to get over (I wasn't trying to block them, but it was one of those deals where I was on an off-ramp that turns into a new lane on the new road... they were in the left lane on the "new" road and I was watching to see if they were going to signal but they didn't so I just maintained my speed. idk).
