and I have come to the realization that I just don't understand the Elder Scrolls world at all. It's like it wants to be medieval fantasy but then there are silt striders and sneaky cat people and Daedric princes but they all seem to be from different universes and it's weird.

I don't have this problem with... any other game series at all.

It literally takes place on a different planet.

You aren't playing King Arthur: Quest For Camelot, you're playing Mass Effect or Halo, if electricity didn't exist.

Wouldn't that be the "fantasy" part of "medieval fantasy"? I mean Warcraft is medieval fantasy, that has demons from another plane of existence as well as amphibian people. Does Warcraft confuse you, too?

One of my favorite MMOs. Not saying much since I've only ever tried ... maybe a dozen in my life (and never WoW). I actually find it more interesting than Skyrim in many ways, since you actually cause changes in the world (like exorcising ghosts from a cemetery or rescuing a town from werewolves, and then the population comes back). The crafting system is ... extensive (and time consuming if you want to master all the traits). Only thing I hate is the combat system, but maybe it's because I went with a Warden class.

That's just a weird concept to me for some reason >_>. Like I understand The Witcher entirely - monsters poured over from another dimension. But the fact that there's this whole other planet that's like ours but has spriggans and vampires in the human understanding of those things... it's strange. But I do appreciate that explanation, it's a step in the right direction.

The art style and explicit over-the-top emphasis on orcs and goblins and crap makes Warcraft pretty straightforward.

Elder Scrolls has always been about a more realistic portrayal of the fantasy world. But not like Dungeons and Dragons style, but... its own take on it.

I used to really like TES.

Nothing really synergizes though, and Bethesda haven't been great designers since Morrowind.

Could you please expand on that? I am curious to read your thoughts (at least a little excerpt >_>).

I mean technically Nirn is a chunk of dead-god-matter orbited by the sundered halves of a dead god, among many other planets which are the literal husks of dead gods, floating in Oblivion, which is full of holes peaking into Aetherius.
