Im kind of mad I never paid much attention to Genesis RPGs. There's just so many little touches that I wasnt expecting, like different animations based on the weapon you're using. And the comic-panel cutscenes are really cool too look really snazzy.

Also it's got CT style dual techs. I was surprised when I accidentally used one, felt great to discover it. But I'll probably use a guide for the rest. >_>

Only real complaint is that the spell names make no sense and there's no way to check their effects besides just trial and error lmao.

I absolutely love the first three Phantasy Star games. Played them on the GBA collection back in the day. Never tried IV but I've heard only good things.

Yeah for a 1993 game when it was released in Japan, it is quite impressive, especially compared to the previous three Phantasy Star games. Phantasy Star II also impressed me with it's battle animations, though it's over-world map is pretty garbo.

I never understood the big hooplah about those games. They suck mechanically, IV is the only one with a half-decent story or dialog, the dungeons NEVER END, you need a guide to figure out what any of the spells do (which in fairness goes with the territory for its age) and you will grind for countless hours.

I guess it's just that the Genesis had a higher resolution than most SNES games.

I bought like, every Genesis steam game when the lot were on sale for like, ten bucks.

Its taken me way too long to move past Sonic and Altered Beast. >_>

IV is the best of the series.

That game was waaaaaaaay ahead of its time. Still so rad. Genesis tunes are so cheesy and awesome.

Well, they're pretty hard as far as RPGs go from what I remember. The first three were quite challenging, at least. In the first one you can easily get rekt if you wander into the wrong area too soon.

yes it was great
phantasy star 2 feels like a barebones attempt at what phantasy star 4 was gonna be.
i love the characters

its so much fun
rika, rune, wren and chaz are great.
there are only 4 permanent party members but you get to pick 1 of all the temporary party members to go with you to the final dungeon so the final party can be very different

I recently got my hands on part 4 as I have played all the other ones when they were released.

4 is what part 3 should have been imo.
