Hi everyone, so my wife and I are on the verge of getting our own health insurance through healthcare.gov for the first time. I plugged in both of our health care providers on the website to make sure they were "in-network" and it said they were, but to call the providers just to check. My question is, is there anything in particular I would need to know for them to check when I call them? Any kind of special ID number that plans have or something? Or can I literally just read out the name of the plan (e.g. bluecross silver 480) and they should be able to recognize it? Just trying to be prepared before I call and sound like an idiot.

Lol this is some Millennial phone call anxiety. Just call and ask. I'm sure they deal with morons all the time.

I don't work with ACA business, but in the large group market we have about 100 different names for what's effectively the same thing. The providers probably have internal names, customer-facing names, insurer-facing names, and a few others thrown in for good measure.

My impression is that the number is unnecessary. If you know which insurer your plan is through, you can probably ask the providers if they're in-network for Company XYZ's silver ACA plan.

Some of those plans will automatically assign you a primary doctor when you enroll so make sure you can chose your current doctor or have it changed to your current doctor after you enroll.

Edit: I read the 1st post as you calling the insurance provider.

I think I'm good there since it asked me to plug in my primary doctors, but I will keep an eye out for it just in case, once I make the first payment.

Edit: Ah, gotcha. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

You were pretty clear I just read the post with my own issues clouding it. When I did this a few years back I checked to make sure my doctor accepted the company I was going to go through on their website. But I didnt check about the specific plan and then when I got the insurance card they had just assigned me to a random doctor closer to my house. it became a bit of an ordeal to get that all sorted out.
