Board 8 > Is there anything worse than filling out job applications on a crappy system?

I'm getting back into putting in job applications and I am so demoralized when I have to sign up for some wacky job application system on their website, then manually fill out my employment history (asking for locations, phone numbers, etc), filling out references, and answering random questions. Why can't companies just take a damn resume and cover letter? Why do they have to force you to use their crappy system that has redundant and/or pointless information?

And then of course those are the jobs you don't even get a call back from too. Frustrating.

Sure, there is. You can fill out an application, do well on the testing, and then discover in your interview that your previous employer isn't abiding to the terms of your separation agreement and is instead telling people that they fired you.

Well I mean, that's a very specific situation, but I just meant more of a "Hey, this is an annoying thing that happens every time you go job searching that's amazing they haven't just simplified."

It's over and done with. I managed to land a job in spite of them, and I've been doing quite well at my new job.

Because taking a resume means that somebody has to actually look at it.

If they can make you fill out an application then they can automatically filter you out without looking at your resume

I really hate it when you have to do all of that and THEN it requires you to upload a resume after doing all that

I hate when you upload your resume and it auto-fills the fields but puts everything in the wrong field or randomly cuts off half of it so you might as well have just filled it out manually

They do it to weed lazy people out

Clicking "upload resume" is easy

But the people that "screw this" the stupid application thing halfway through are people they assume are too lazy or aren't going to have patience for the job

That's on top of the "filtering out" the questions do, of course
