To a degree, yes. But the parents or whatever generation immigrated illegally is ultimately responsible for it. Surely they considered the possibility of deportation somewhere down the line. Therefore they can't expect their plight to be treated as some great injustice that was done to them.

But I'm open to exploring ideas for allowing illegal immigrants to work toward citizenship, or maybe even be granted citizenship if they're clearly already assimilated into society.

Thank you for even just saying that. I mean I can understand having a hardline stance on illegal immigration. But to not even have any empathy for these families....idk what went wrong with some people emotionally. Are they stunted? Did their parents not teach them empathy? Do we have a lot of a sociopaths on this board? Is it just because they dont know any undocumented families so they block out the emotions since they dont wanna picture it. Idk.

it doens't stop you from getting deported because you snuck into the country, it doesn't stop you from jail-time for theft, and it doesn't stop you from death for murder

I think that statement shows more what you think about hispanic or latino people as opposed to immigration.

Truth is, people overstay their visas from all over the world buddy. But one race gets disproportionally targeted by said laws. Having grown up in a border state, I've seen my friends of color get harassed by law enforcement even though their families have grown up in the U.S. legally for many more generations than my family has (I'm 1st generation). Yet they don't bat an eye on me and I'd be pretty fucking ignorant to ignore why that might be the case. Hell, they don't bat an eye at all the illegals from my part of the world (eastern europe) even though most of them speak broken-ass English with extremely thick accents and never assimilate into a culture outside of their own ethnicity when they overstay their visas here.
