Worked. I was made redundant at my first job, then quit my second when they tried the same.

On the other hand, you bust your ass, but never see a change in your paycheck. The asskissers and/or friends of the managers get the promotions because you accidentally made yourself too valuable in your current position.

Good coworkers and cooperative environments are more important than bigger paychecks where happiness is concerned.

The further you have to travel to work, the more stress you experience in your daily life. That has obvious negative effects on happiness.

People who bring strong-smelling food to work for lunch aren't assholes unless they do it consistently. So don't throw too much shade.

Make sure everyone you work with/for knows your name. If they don't say your name out loud at least once a day you may as well not exist.

Make sure everyone knows exactly what position you will end up in, and remind them weekly. Don't say "I want to be the Division Manager" or whatever...it's "When I'm the Division Manager".

the people who should get promoted based on their performance and capability never do, because the people who make those decisions either act too slow or refuse to listen to someone who's watched an employee constantly bust their ass for years

knowing that you were either getting crucified by the workers or torn apart by higher ups if they decided to implement some asinine addition to the workflow that was never going to work but went ahead with it anyway to make it seem like they were improving or changing something

If it needs to be done, its not being done, and you know how to do it, its your job. If youve run out of stuff the manager told you to do, thats the best policy.

This applies to absolutely everything you were taught how to do and then some. NEVER assume someone else is doing something you know how to do, no matter how much thats been the case before. Its not because theyre lazy, but because the company just plain doesnt have everyone scheduled all the time, and thank goodness for that.

Also, ever hear the saying Do the thing you dont want to first thing in the morning so you can get it out of the way? Yeah, cant do that if you work a closing shift.

I work as a manager at a theatre, and our ticketing kiosks don't accept gift cards. We called it in to corporate IT 4 years ago when we changed software. Flash forward to today, and it is still a known issue that they are looking into.
