Nintendo never seems to compete with anyone but itself. This ability to get away with playing by its own rules must be frustrating to everyone else in entertainment who isnt called Disney.

2017 was a particularly good year for Nintendo and its self-made luck, as the gaming giant kept making moves that were so confident yet weird that we were often left wondering if anyone behind the wheel knew what they were doing ... or if perhaps it was all part of a secret, master plan to take over the world.

Here is a short list of bizarre things that never would have worked for Microsoft or Sony, but that Nintendo made look easy. In no particular order, how the hell was Nintendo able to win at some much at the same time it:

- Discontinued its most popular product: NES Classic
- Sold unfinished consoles: The Switch
- Focused on a single game during E3: Super Mario Odyssey
- Consistently cannabalized its most popular product: Smartphones
- Returned to one of its biggest failures: Switch being a tablet like Wii U
- Sold Mario Kart 8 again
- Released a game based on the pitch What if Punch-Out but with springy arms?: ARMS

lmao what a dumb article.

The article doesn't even make sense
- Microsoft and Sony do not have any product like the NES Classic at all
- Both Microsoft and Sony sold unfinished consoles. The PS4 couldn't even do suspend and resume for like a year. You had to download a day one patch to use your Xbox One at all.
- E3 point was nonsensical. Nintendo showed off several games at E3.
- Sony released PS Now on several different platforms. Microsoft support Play Anywhere. They also both release smartphone games with their biggest IP's
- Switch isn't another Wii U at all
- The Last of Us Remastered, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Uncharted Trilogy and the Master Chief Collection aren't things now?

Lol "series of bad mistakes" - maybe with the Wii U unveiling/marketing/concept in general, but everything about the 3DS and Switch has been pretty on point, if not optimal.

- They brought out the SNES Classic though and they discontinued the NES Classic to make way for the Switch
- Nobody cares, it ran games on day 1 - moreover, it had great exclusive (at least to Nintendo) games on day 1
- This is a lie
- Not relevant
- Wii U gamepad was reliant on being in 10-20 foot range of the actual console so it wasn't really portable
- This was the right move as evidenced by how many people hadn't played the game yet
- This was a bit of a throw away game anyway - yeah, because Microsoft and Sony never have titles like these

During the Wii U's lifespan I consistently found more knowledgeable and nuanced information on the console/games on the boards here then in any gaming journalism article. Yeah, there was a lot of trolling about the Wii U (obviously) but there was also a lot of firsthand info that was useful.

It already has a better library and is on track to outsell the Wii U by the end of January. It's almost at the same pace as the PS4's first year.
