Xenoblade Chronicles is a great game, one of my favorite RPGs.
Not sure how it plays on the 3DS, though.

Spent some time on both games. Think I'll be happy with them.

Happy I took a risk on a Mario game for once. :P

Never played that one, don't fancy the trouble of trying to find it down here though. I'll be best off getting it elsewhere (probably Aus or the UK, seems PAL got NG+).

NG+ in the PAL version the Mansion is mirrored and as well as more(and stronger) ghosts.
Also you get to Ride the Poltergust during the third boss : P

Just a little tip; there are a ton of optional sidequests, and if you try to do them all it'll kill any challenge in the game (it's surprisingly easy to overlevel) and you'll probably lose interest quickly. Just do them if you feel like it or if you need experience.

Yeah, XC is incredible, but it just has way too many damn sidequests. Hundreds of them.

Accept any quests you're offered, there's no penalty for taking one on and never doing it (late in the game there's some split path options where agreeing to one quest might close off another branch, but don't worry about that anytime soon). And for any that ask you to kill a monster type, you can't get credit for any kills you score until you have the quest. Likewise, if you have a quest for a material or collectible item, the game will put a red exclamation marker on it to let you know it's for a quest you accepted (so maybe don't sell it for money / inventory space).
But don't go out of your way to do them, just complete them haphazardly as you progress through the game and you'll enjoy things more, IMO.
Late game, finishing certain chains of quests will give very nice tangible rewards for each playable character (as the chain ends in a quest of specific interest to the character), but you can worry about catching up on them at that point if you want.

One last thing on the side quests... You'll see in some cases quests are "timed." That does not mean you have X amount of time to complete them after accepting, so don't worry about that. A timed quest means that after you progress far enough along in the plot, the quest will no longer be able to be completed, because the quest giver will no longer be reachable or moves to a new area and is no longer interested in whatever s/he asked of you before, etc...
If you want to get all/most quests in the game done, you should prioritize getting those done, though you usually have a fair chunk of time in the story before you lose access to a given timed quest. The late game character-specific quests I mentioned above don't require doing any of them as far as I know.
