doesn't it only start at like $15 an hour? i know when i looked into some jobs before they didn't pay much. but then it's not really that hard to get into.

if you're in some small town it wouldn't be bad. but any major city or close to one would just suck.

Mine is 26 an hour during the academy. Then 35 an hour after with yearly raises.

I only have to work 40 hours(4 days a week). I can work any amount of OT. Average salary after like 5 years is 100k

I considered law enforcement (hell, law in general) at one point in my youth, but quickly became disillusioned with that whole sector of professions after I grew up and found out how much corruption there is. I didn't want to be one of the bad ones, and I no longer believed that good ones could exist anymore.

They dont have that reputation at all. Policeman have a reputation of being ridiculously overpaid government employees. Make a ton of money, retire young with an absurdly high pension, then go get another highly paid government job while already drawing your pension. Its why so many cities and states are financially screwed due to underfunded pension liabilities.

One of the best job in the world if you hate sitting down in a cubicle and like thrill here and there. Plus the pay is nice. Depends where you live You can make over 100k after about 5 years or so and its one of the few jobs that still allows a lot of overtime. The worst thing about being a police officer isnt the people on the street, its the shit schedule.

Yep, I live in a city of like 700k people and the budget required to pay for the police is starting to signficantly hinder what can be paid in other areas.

Also doesn't help that you will never see a judge side with the city in salary arbitration with the police unions.

Yeah, Police unions are basically the most untouchable organizations in America. Republican politicians will protect them at all costs.

My sociology professor in college said many police forces target "poor person" drugs like crack or marijuana, while for the most part avoid cracking down on things like heroine, who's users have good lawyers and can fight back. Not individual cops, but the departments as a whole apparently bust drugs that are associated with certain socioeconomic or even racial backgrounds.

I thought that was complete s***, but if you see something similar you should bring that up here.

I'm chill af and was good to people as an MP in the army. Did a couple days at the academy and did final processing for my payroll and benefits yesterday. Monday the academy finally gets losing

Dreading it more than boot camp. People were so scared of being yelling at like boot camp we started with 45 people at 15 alternates. We now have 40 people and no alternates heading into monday

Just lol. Your professor is wrong. Also lol thinking heroin addicts have a ton of money for lawyers. You're professor should be fired for being so uneducated and talking about things he has apparently no real knowledge of.

And more lol. Cops enforcing drug laws in shitty neighborhoods more than well off ones. No shit because there aren't crack dealers, armed robberies or home invasions nearly as often in nicer neighborhoods. Don't even get me started.

Where do you live? Each police department is different but very few make 30k a year lol. Maybe 30k if you're highway patrol near some cow town in the middle of nowhere with a 100 and a half population but most bigger cities their starting pay is usually around 50-60k.
