They've had like 2 games in the last 4-5 years

Could be making a lot more $$$ here

Back in LucasArts' prime we had like 3 or 4 a year

Warner still gets to make them, for some reason.

Hmmm that's quite odd. I mean it's obviously the Lego games specifically though, right?

Allegedly, that's how Warner is able to weasel around EA's exclusivity, yes.

The only reason we didn't get a Lego Rogue One is probably because Warner was betting on Dimensions being huge cash cow.

EA has become everything bad about the games industry. A few years ago I would never say they're worse than Activision but they are now.

Sure but their deal was also based on them doing things other than Battlefront.

Yes, it was absolutely middling at best. The game had all the factors to have been the most highly sold game of all time, and it didn't perform.

I imagine Disney is standing behind the EA team's shoulder with the red pen in hand this time around. EA doesn't give a shit about consumer satisfaction, but Disney wants everyone to be happy when they think about Star Wars ekans.

Yeah say what you will about Disney, they certainly want to make sure people are nauseatingly happy about everything they do.

They have (to my knowledge) one other game in development

That was, I believe, just recently canned.

I'm sure Disney understands that quality trumps quantity. They only signed the exclusivity deal in, what, 2013? Two games in four years is pretty good.

If you think Battlefront is barebones as is, imagine if it were a yearly release like COD.

It's EA

They can have several studios making separate Star Wars games. I don't know why they don't, because it's fucking Star Wars so it'll make bank no matter what.

I mean for every Star Wars game that EA refuses to make, there's some modding team out there modding some 20 year old freeware title into an acceptable modern Star Wars strategy game or whatever

So fine if EA doesn't want my money then lol

It's not just that they need it. It's what the entire game is based around. It's designed like a slot machine.

I'm just flabbergasted why EA thinks the game needs a suite of microtransactions and loot boxes. It's an AAA game releasing alongside the movies. People are going to come home from the movies and want to play as someone in the Star Wars universe. It should be selling like hotcakes. All they had to do was make it feel like a star wars game and get gamers excited for it and it could be one of the highest selling video games in history.

Instead it's going to do middlingly well because EA is going to EA. I really hope there is a Disney exec looming over their shoulders notebook in hand like Kira from fucking death note here. There really can't be a third Disney movie without a good Star Wars game to accompany it.

It's one of the simplest formulas to get a high selling game and EA can't help but screw it up regirock

There's literally a movie releasing each year, and an ongoing TV series (soon to be two)

You can time a game or several a year to coincide with the films or the series

That's going to make assloads of $$$ even without the games being AAA or having microtransactions

It did 14 million copies. How is that underperforming? EA originally expected 9-10 Million by March 31st 2016 and It did 13 Million by than

Also how did they have the factors to be the highest selling game ever? I cant even.

Fuck EA and all but you are really reaching here.

If Disney wasn't treating the scripts like KFC or Coke's recipes, or a Scientology text, games would have a more reasonable development window.

Of course, firing directors when a movie is all but complete, and reshooting most of it, sure as hell doesn't help.

It's because disney shut down lucasarts and every project they were working on. So if Disney has a problem with it it's their own fault.

But I doubt they do. How many games have you seen released lately based on Disney properties? They don't seem to care much about the market.

Pretty sure the only reason they let Rebels happen was because Clone Wars did so well.
