yet i know of dudes who make anime review videos and vlogs on youtube as their only source of income through paypal and patreon and brought a moderate size house in NY. dude makes as much money as my dad does for literally contributing nothing but critique and dumb conversations about what he thinks about cartoon robots and loli girls he'd like to fuck.

just stepping back and knowing this is kind of baffling. yeah i know there have always been the entertainment industry - comedians and actors - but guys like the anime guy don't even have to be funny - not anymore entertaining than any other regular person. same goes for a good chunk of twitch streamers or lets play guys.

am i cynical for thinking the bar of being moderately successful has been incredibly lowered by wide spread use of the internet? so much trite, not even artistic, crap content creators just plow away for a couple years and end up with the same income as my old man who supervises the construction of tall commercial buildings in one of the most important cities in the world.

like, im pretty good at video games by merit of playing them for much of my life and i could stream it. or i got lots of commentary with some dry sarcastic humor to throw in to be another cartoon reviewer guy on the internet. but besides making money, i know its incredibly meaningless work. it doesn't add anything to society yet some several thousands of people with disposable income will smirk at the video i make and will throw a dollar my way. i could end up with a 2K monthly income after a year of being a completely banal online creator. my god, imagine if i was a chick with C cup breasts - make that 4K monthly income after a year o_O

back to the college thing, meanwhile those jobs after graduation leave many with large student loans that can't be defaulted on and its a struggle to get past that to earn your actual living. meanwhile online content creation has minuscule costs in comparison with much less risk. accrue enough of an income and start investing into real estate for the long run - so the argument of "but no 401K or insurance plans as online creator!!!" can be easily solved.

meh . . . .

These people found a rising niche in the market and filled it (regardless of whether or not that was their intention).

I don't see anything particularly frustrating about it.

Is YouTube even still a good way for income anymore? All I hear about is random demonetization lately

Only if you have some original idea that will probably be non political and non mature in content. And youll still probably need a solid year-2 year plan involving having a side job just for income...and thats if things work out. Basically not a good idea. However, as long as the vids you put up are straight edge anyway, its not like having them up is gonna hurt.

YT ad penny income was very unreliable for many creators since before this years scandal. they make the bulk of their income on patreon and endorsement deals and wherever else.

Stop being bitter and start twitch streaming on a consistent basis. Who cares about whether or not it "adds value to society"? It's fun and you can make some extra cash.

also I don't think most of them make that much at all so even if i were to be frustrated about it there isnt much to be frustrated by
