I think the anime was its own thing, but LtM would probably know for sure since he seems like THE Danganronpa guy around here.

V3 is a totally separate continuity. Supposedly anyway, barring any future plot twists in the next game.

But you can definitely play it without having played any of the games or seeing any anime before it.

So it is separate from the games too?

DR3 is the final chapter in the Hope's Peak Academy arc. Totally cannon to the games, but you won't necessarily be missing much by ignoring it.

V3 is supposedly a reboot. I find it highly unlikely that there's isn't going to be some shocking twist tying it into DR1 or 2, but I severely doubt we'll see connections to the anime or Ultra Despair Girls.
