You'll probably want to use the clone stamp tool for that. Alt + click the area on the background you want as a starting point, and then just brush over the guy. Also, use a soft brush so you don't get any hard edges.

That is how I used to do it, but I just figured out how to do it using the lasso tool and fill + content aware.
