Are you more productive with fewer hours of work?

My workplace has several days a year where we work fewer than 8 hours. On Fridays in July, we get to leave 1 hour earlier. On Fridays in August, we usually get out at 12 (start at 9). Days before holidays, we get out at 2 or 3 (start at 9).

The 3 hour days I am usually a lot less productive, but I work a lot harder for the 5 or 6 hour days. I think that's the perfect length.

I'm working 3 hour days and I'm pretty productive for the entire time. When I have longer hours, I usually spend a good amount of time eating shit.

It's more like, "I only put in 6 hours of effort despite being here for 8."

I can't focus on my job for 8 straight hours. Or anything, really.

It does seem like a lot of time is not spent on work.

I do basically the same amount of work every day whether I am in the office for 2 hours or 8 hours. so yeah, I am a lot more productive with fewer hours. and I get more imitative to do stuff.

All of the jobs I've had either had a set schedule that didn't really change, or how much how work there was depends on stuff outside of your control (delivering pizza depends on customers calling in, you go home when there's not enough deliveries for the amount of drivers in store, or if you're closing, you finish your cleaning up early for the same reason). When I was a receiving clerk, we went home early a lot because there weren't a lot of loads, or the unloaders got shit unloaded quickly, or both. I had basically no real control over that.

My field is programming so yeah. I'm good for about 6 hours and then I'm too tired to do anything else productive.
