I'm not asking what you want or don't want. I just want to know what you think will happen.

Nah, nothing ever comes out of it. It's more possible he'll die from old age than him getting impeached.

Impeaching the President requires a majority of the House. I think that'll happen after the midterm elections, when the Dems will (I expect) have enough votes that the Republicans can't protect Trump. However, actually removing the President from office requires a two-thirds vote in the Senate. That, I do not expect.

Not from this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does something so blatantly illegal in the future so that they'll have to impeach him.

Mostly this, but in 2020 22 Republican seats will be up for re-election including McConnell's, so anything's possible if they want to minimize their own losses depending on how things are playing out.

(And McConnell probably won't lose to a Democrat, but getting primaried out of his seat isn't an impossible scenario).

He'll either get impeached close to the end of his first term, or he'll come dangerously close and choose not to run for reelection, running away with the reelection campaign money he's been amassing since his first day in office.

I don't think he'll be removed from office by impeachment proceedings, but I do think he'll either get impeached but not removed from office like Clinton, or resign before being removed from office like Nixon. But it's looking very likely that Democrats take the House in 2018 and if that happens I don't see why he wouldn't get impeached.

I guess if Mueller's investigation isn't completed before Trump just loses re-election (or chooses not to run)? It's going to take a while but no one seems to think it'll take THAT long. And I can't imagine why a Democratic House WOULDN'T impeach. The political advantage is in forcing Senate Republicans to protect an unpopular President, not in appearing to protect him themselves.

So the only ways Trump doesn't get impeached are if the Republicans hold the House, or he dies/resigns before the post-midterm Congress takes office.

If the Dems take the House in 2018 and Trump continues doing shit like firing Comey then I imagine he will be.

The Senate probably wouldn't actually remove him, but it's possible if the Republicans think he's too much of an anchor for 2020 at that point.

Worth noting that of the 33 Senate races in 2020, 22 are Republican incumbents. Many are in fairly safe red states but plenty of others are not, so it could be interesting to guess how impeachment votes would likely shake out for Trump, comparing who would face blowback for protecting him versus who would face it for NOT protecting him and what that means for how close he gets to 67 votes to remove. And of course there's the unknown of just how low Trump's approval can go, depending on the results of Mueller's investigation, what happens with healthcare, and his own erratic behavior.

lolno

A lot of Trump supporters have proven time and time again that anything is excusable if Trump does it. And I doubt anyone else has the backbone to actually try to get him impeached.

What if he gets impeached after losing reelection in 2020 but before the next President takes office in 2021? Does Pence or whoever get to be a lame duck for a few weeks?

^Ignoring that no one would bother at that point if they waited that long unless there was something new and arch-vllian-like, yes, that is what would happen at any point he were removed from office prior to the start of the next presidential term.

No, "getting impeached" literally means "impeachment proceedings brought against". Bill Clinton got impeached.

Unless he is talking about a Nixon situation, in which the House literally did begin "impeachment proceedings," but he resigned before it made it to a full vote.

If that happens the conservative conspiracy theorists will literally be up in arms because they'll think that Hillary and Obama assassinated him.
