To reveal the whole map, go to all the locations. Also, enough of them were unimportant that it didn't really have that strength. Actually traveling between islands was really boring due to length of time and not a whole lot to do inbetween. Compare that to OoT, where there could be a hidden grotto around every corner, and the variety of things to do between major locations. Plus, OoT has a version with harder dungeons.
