It's kinda interesting, but opening with the idle animations bit almost turned me away because that just seems nitpicky.

Like, I doubt anybody is playing Mortal Kombat because they want characters that stand like perfect karate masters or whatever. The distinct lack of realism with MK makes me prefer the over the top idle animations. It wouldn't seem right if all of them were like Ryu/KoF.

As much as he criticized the characters' posture, I've always thought they were weirdly reluctant to not be standing up straight for any length of time. Like everyone wants to be standing up with a straight back no matter how they're punching or kicking or even getting knocked around. The lack of hitstop is also a problem for their animation, but maybe that's related to what he says about bad key frames; if they stopped on any of these awkward frames it might actually look worse.

What's funny is that the janky animations really started when they began incorporating more "real" martial arts into the series, starting with the PS2 games.
