First off I will say that you can clearly tell that this is a Guy Ritchie movie. His style is all over it. The editing, the banter, the flashing back and forth storytelling are all very similar of his other movies.

When it comes to the one liners and banter I liked some of it, but the people around me loved those parts a lot more. Though I will say that type of humor isn't my favorite.

Even though I knew this was an origin story it was still overall a lot smaller scale than I expected it to be. There are a few epic battle scenes but they aren't a key part of the movie. Most of it is a few people vs a few people.

My favorite character was the female mage, who basically plays the Merlin role in this movie. She was unique and added some nice things to the overall plot. The acting was good, though I sort of wish Jude Law would have been given more to do.

Overall the effects were well done. There are some artistic choices taken when Excalibur is used that I didn't like, but they didn't necessarily look bad. Certain parts remind me of a Dark Souls movie, and they looked pretty cool.

My biggest complaint of the movie is the first 20 minutes or so, I really don't feel like they set up the plot in the best way possible.

And yes, it clearly sets up a sequel and new franchise. Who knows if it will get that far of course.

7/10 Worth a watch.

Compared to the King Arthur movie from last decade, I think I liked the Clive Owen one a bit more than this.
