Going to Mexico need to do a late flight. Kinda want room to sleep and stuff, its about $150 extra

I personally wouldn't, I can sleep well enough as long as I have a window seat. The extra charge wouldn't be worth it to me.

For any flight over 3.5 hrs I try to upgrade if I can/can afford it.

I'm good for the first 3.5 but once I hit 4 hrs I get antsy. For NY to Cali it's a must.

No friggen clue bruh, ask your airline

Pay the extra 20 and get a bulkhead seat. Business class is good, but only for long long flights. If you're on a 3+hour one, you'll be on a nicer plane anyway.
