Can South Korea not get nukes? Do we not let them do that? Seems like they just need some good ole mutually assured destruction with North Korea and the situation will be fine. Like the Cold War.

United Korea needs to happen soon. The civilians in the North deserve better treatment. :/

The problem is, at this point, they wouldn't be able to effectively integrate. :/

We're kind of against nuclear proliferation.

This. It would be like East Germany trying to integrate with West. But 100 times worst. Even the refugees who escape from North Korea find South Korea unwelcoming, and too complicated.

I don't see the problem. They could still live in North Korea and it would take decades for it to become as modern as South Korea.

The question is whether or not the South Korean government is willing to spend the money required to integrate.

Yeah, they'd need a really slow, gradual process. East and West Germany had less of a cultural and economic divide than the Koreas do, but things are still relatively disconnected nearly 30 years later. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think German wasn't split for as long either (though probably not by much).

There'd need to be an independent state government to adjust policies over time. Not just to help people adapt, but to also make sure everything doesn't completely collapse in both North and South Korea. The economic burden will be huge for the South, and I'm normally pretty isolationist, but I think its major trading partners should throw a bit of aid their way.

I don't think that's true. I saw a documentary awhile ago about a girl who escaped North Korea, taken in by the South. She has stated that she loved South Korea's fashion, started shopping for clothes often, and I think she was featured in a game show or something.

I really don't think it would be difficult for ALL the civilians in the North to adapt. I think integration could potentially work.

Because despite how people treat nukes nowadays, they're still incredibly f***ing dangerous and nuclear proliferation is a thing people like to know about.

One is not a valid sample size. Not to mention things always work differently on larger scales.

You don't see the problem because you're some nobody on the internet that has probably never even thought about the specifics of reunifying Korea before. Part of why North Korea is where it is right now is because both China and South Korea have spent more than four seconds considering what would happen if anything changed.

All we need to do is get China in on it. I think people would be happy if China took over North Korea.

North Korea may be nuts, but are they really going to go against every single world superpower? Think they might just give up before we fire a single bullet.

All the stuff I seem to see and read about is how South Koreans treat them like dirt, and they can't figure out ATM machines.
