Would go out. Then come back randomly.

Rebooting the modem and router does nothing.

Sometimes it wouldn't work through the router but it would work plugged straight into the modem.

Sometimes it wouldn't work plugged straight into the modem.

Buy new router.

Still cuts out.

Think maybe it is the cable.

Use different ethernet cables.

Works for a bit.

Goes out again.

Now the wired connection from the router doesn't work (to my TV or my PC) but when it connects wirelessly, it works.

This makes no sense. And it is pissing me off so fucking much.

Almost like it could be on the ISPs end...

GOOMFalse posted...
Almost like it could be on the ISPs end...

They said there are no problems with them. Tech is coming tomorrow.

But I just don't get why it would stop working via the wired connection but connect and work wirelessly. I don't fucking get it.

Could be faulty ports on the router if wireless works fine

Edit: Nevermind, just saw that you got a new router

Mine hasn't been working that well either, I've got stuck on CE in the middle of posting things and the connection timed out. I recently had to reset my router and modem, when my bill was unpaid, but that should have fixed itself since then, unless the new service my provider gives is just poor quality.

Sometimes it wouldn't work plugged straight into the modem.

Probably something on the ISP's end if this is ever the case and you've tried multiple cables and devices.

I am almost wondering if it is the ethernet port on my PC, but that wouldn't explain my TV not connecting via a cable either...

When it goes out, can you ping across your local network?

You could log in to the modem and look for any connectivity errors.

The IP address of a cable modem is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.100.1 but it can vary by ISP. You can usually search for the modem model and find it.

A decent test to do would be:

1. Plug PC directly into modem
2. Open up command prompt (start > run > cmd on Windows or click start and type cmd in the search box on Windows 7 or later)
3. Run this command: ping google.com -t

And just let it run. Ideally, you should only see "reply from..." over and over, but when it stops working, you may see "request timed out" repeatedly. This would prove that there's something going on on the ISP's end, as long as your network adapter still shows it's connected (start > run > ncpa.cpl to bring upt he network connections screen quickly)
