okay, so as I said before, we've had a flea problem. we've given my cat baths, fogged the house (twice!), got some s*** for the lawn, and everything you can think of. except going to a vet and getting exterminator help
so I chose the vet route and surprisingly, flea stuff isn't too expensive! 20 bucks for a pill and some goo you put on the cat but yea, theres the problem. my cat is the pickiest eater ever. she only eats this generic brand cat food from a specific store. all of her life. doesn't like anything else >_>
and I knew if I just stuck the pill in her normal bowl, she would not eat it
I started brainstorming and remembered that when I first found her, I bought her this wet canned food all of the time before I decided to keep her, and she ate the crap out of that stuff
so banking on that she would get on a nostalgic trip, I bought a can. I cut the pill in 3 pieces and took a spoonful of the catfood and put it on a napkin for her, and presented it to her (god damn shes spoiled)
I watched her for a minute, she was smelling it, AND SHE STARTED EATING IT
ODE OF JO.......wait
then she F***ING SPITS OUT THE GOD DAMN PILL
all 3 chunks. its like she gathered them up in her mouth and collectively ridded herself of them.
so I tried it again
SAME THING
then I started reasoning with her. I was talking to her and asking her to please eat what I give her, she wasn't taking it. well, not the way I wanted it
since the flea infestation, I have to admit, I've been neglecting her. I feel bad, but I won't let her cuddle up next to me or let her stay in the same room as me for very long. I just pet her several times a day and thats it. =(
so all of this time we were spending together, she was eating it up, and not the pill!
I then grabbed the cat food, got down on my belly, grabbed a pinch full with my hand, and put the pills into it. and presented it to her while still in my hand
she started purring and started rubbing against my face a couple of times, she just wanted love! but dammit, I'm trying to be serious here!
but the same thing happened
she ate it, managed to collect the pill pieces and spat them back in my hand. we did this for an hour.
there was still a spoonful of food left, but she finally ate the pill.
The things I do for my little kitty >_>
I think she was doing this on purpose. I mean, I think she knew the pill wasn't normal and she meant to spit it out, but I mean she was probably purposely not eating it to draw out our time together!
I've never had to give her a pill before, is there an easier way to do this?

With your thumb and forefinger, gently squeeze her jaw near the joints to force it open. Put the pill in, then hold her mouth shut and rub her throat until she swallows. It's unpleasant but it will be over faster so it will be better for both of you.

I dunno if peanut butter will work, I remember we tried something like that with my old cat and she just ate the peanut butter or whatever and spit the pill out.

This. So much. Takes about 5 seconds.

she won't take any crap from anything she doesn't like. if I even attempt that, she'll run away from me and I'll spend the next 5 hours trying to catch her as she runs under sofas, tables, and beds and s***
I recently tried spraying her with some flea s*** some weeks ago, so I know shes still does this

Why not grind the pill into powder and mix the powder into the food? Ain't no way she can tongue the food for the small solid piece o' pill to spit out now.
Last time I had to give my dog a pill, I sat him down, and in a firm, yet careful tone, told him
"You have diabetes. We should have seen the signs. All of those treats over the years weren't a good idea, and you've become sluggish. If only we had caught it sooner, we wouldn't have to have this talk. But as it stands now, they may have to take the foot. All we can do is move on with our lives and cope with this, taking it one day at a time. This pill is the first in a long, yet necessary line of medication that will at least ease your quality of life. It won't be easy, but we'll make it through this together."
And then I fed him the peanut butter sandwich, and as he swallowed the last bit, I broke it to him.
"I lied. You don't have diabetes. Geez are you stupid. Durrhurr."
And I went back inside.

honestly I was afraid to break the pill more than I already did >_>
and like I said, I resorted to basically bringing the food up to her on my hands, the powder would've kept rubbing off on me
I'm sure I could've chopped it up, got the food in my hand, and them sprinkled some on the food as I presented it to her but she would've known something was up if she saw that. refer to when I tried spraying the flea crap on her earlier in this topic. >__>
oh, and yea, she took the flea gel crap that I got from the vet very well. I just started petting her and I applied it between her ears fairly quickly
Yeah, you're generally not supposed to mash pills into powder, for animals or humans. 99% of the time, they're much more effective when allowed to dissolve naturally, and being powder speeds that process up big time.

Flea medication's not gonna be harmful smashed up. Just less effective.
It basically puts toxins through the body that are harmless to the pet, but harmful/repelling to fleas. It lasts for X amount of time past the duration of the pill, so the quicker the pill gets absorbed, the less time it'll last. And it has to last a certain amount of time to drive all the fleas away/keep it lingering around so no more come.
