And didn't you have to hold down a button to make text advance? I think the game has honestly aged better than most PSX RPGs (besides the obviously really good ones)... my girlfriend played it for the first time last year, which was also the first time I'd seen it since 2002, and we both came away with this impression. The battle system is good fun even if it's easy, proto-FFX gameplay combined with a much better version of timed hits than we saw in SMRPG (visual cues are pretty key).
