Comedy has literally never been freer.

He's not wrong. We could be politically incorrect knowing that this is a joke and not to be taken serious, but nothing can be joked about anymore cause stuff happens to
people and it can be triggering.

Of course, gay and transphobic jokes were never funny since at the very best theyre lazy, but it shouldnt be wrong to talk poke fun at peoples differences.

Making gay jokes can be funny when it's not homophobic. Joking about the ridiculous amount of body categorisation of gay men bodies is very different than making fun of someone because they are gay

Anything can be joked about. But it's best leaving those topics to those who live them. Leave trans jokes to trans people. Leave gay jokes to gay people. Leave black jokes to black people.

"Wait, that's not fair, then how could I, as a straight white male, make any jokes?" ..... You can if you are a comedy genius. Stop hitting low hanging fruit. If you want to beat around identity comedy, trust me, there's lots of make fun of straight white men on.

  • If black people can joke about getting nailed by cops on racism, make jokes about how you don't. (As long as it isn't bragging and is genuinely comedy, it works) ......
  • If a gay person talks about how hard it is to find people on Grindr for a commitment, make jokes about dating in the way of "Gay guys have issues about finding commitment on Grindr, but let me tell you something about my experience in other dating apps"..... etc.

These comedians just need to take a talking point, and turn it onto themselves as the subject. They take other experiences they don't have, and sometimes use it to punch down.

It's not hard. Everyone has experiences with everything. Everyone experiences them differently based on who that person is. Tell it from your own perspective, not from some made up strawman point. Once you figure that out, make a few jokes about it, and boom. You avoid being an asshole.

No, South Park just lost touch with its own brand of comedy.

Used to be off kilter humor, kids actually acting more like kids, you had pop culture references and celebs occasionally but they weren't used as the crutch for the entire show to exist on like now, and it explored a lot more of its wacky citizens.

You don't really have any of that nowadays with South Park.

Dave Chappelle is probably the most successful modern comedian, and he's made his current act insulting trans people.

he continues to find success despite the left call him out for it, and that's because those giving him a platform/paying him are raking in the money.

that's unfortunately what matters in the end, and if we're not getting as much comedy have as much success these days, it's because it isn't making as much money as some people would like.

Yeah, and my points explain that. The best way to win comedy is self-deprecation. That way, the only person you offend is yourself. Sure, you might be black and you might make fun of black people doing stand up on those topics, but you've lived those experiences. Just like white men can lean into their privilege and make it funny too. If they themselves are funny. I've seen comedians do it.

Nah, there's actual political comedians who do it well, because that's what they focus on and they're politically engaged. Dean Obeidallah, for example, does jokes from a progressive Muslim Palestinian perspective. But I agree that unless that's what you're making your bread and butter, people should take political takes from comedians with a grain of salt.

Would also recommend John Fugelsang, Stephanie Miller, and Frangela.

there have been some shows like 2 Broke Girls that snuck their offensive comedy through, even on CBS, because most of the network censors probably couldn't even relate to any of the jokes so they had no idea they were offensive.

plus that show had a pet horse, so instant rich people points
