Some Epic employee gave an interview stating Samus was supposed to be in Fortnite around the same time as Master Chief and Kratos to respresent each platform's mascot. But Nintendo backed out because they wanted Samus on the Nintendo version of Fortnite only, and Epic wanted all versions to have the same content.

Nintendo is Disney like protective over their IPs even if they treat them poorly like Metroid, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, ARMS and Mother/Earthbound
