This is a solution in search of a problem. If you want to build a set-up and forget CE II, please stick with a known software, host, and offline backup precisely because they are a known variables. No nasty sw incompatibility. No nasty forced os update ruining everything and so on. Much less headache compared to building your own from scratch. Peer-to-peer would need maintenance and bug fixing of its own too. Who would patch the system once the dev (you) is gone?

Cmiiw I visited several zones but they seemed...deserted!? RI moves a lot faster by comparison.

Yeah, Id wager that the vast majority of zones were intended as one-off jokes. The actual main zone, if you could call it that, is private.

Regardless, though, I thought the idea was to find a place for CE, not to join some other active userbase. Thread Zone is there, it's CE's to use, its free, ad-free, and financially stable, and has all of the features of GameFAQs and countless modern conveniences. I think it would be unwise to sleep on it, but the only vested interest I have here is wanting to see classic forums keep succeeding.
