The FTC and state Attorney Generals enforce it. While on paper it would not apply to sites not based in the US, considering the majority of sites and internet infrastructure is based in the US, it's likely foreign sites would block access to US users unless they give their ID. The wording is so broad that Attorney Generals could nail websites for pretty much anything they consider unacceptable for 16 year olds or younger, hence why they'd have to implement harsh age verification to comply.

The Senate heard it, but haven't voted on it yet. It's not looking good for the Senate, though, as over 60 Senators have pledged support for it, enough for it to be filibuster proof and pass, and it's expected to pass there. That's why efforts are being made to target the House instead now, as it is less likely to pass there at this point.

This is likely also part of the anti-porn push that's been going on recently in several states. Porn is the new scapegoat that comics and video games were in the past, and several states have passed bans and age verification requirements for it, with various sites purging NSFW content as a result.

I have did this also with books, tv shows, and all my music. I run it off my local host/backup 1 is off my a older raid server/backup 2 is split between two external hard drives/backup 3 is on another isolated file storage machine that is not connected to anything, completely offline and has to be manually synced. I'm thinking of adding a 5th layer with the same volume to ensure integrity of it

i know that may just be a reach as this bill does have some relevance to it even before the Iran stuff started happening, but who knows if theyre trying to keep the youth distanced from alternate info-sources as to not sour them on the idea of later voting for any of the creeps sharing any involvement with any potential government bullshittery. i have to imagine theyve been trying to devise SOMETHING in response to the fact that younger people arent voting these days, even if it isnt something so extreme or dystopian

It seems to tie in to their attempts to ban TikTok. So far, the bill for that got stalled because Democrats couldn't come to a consensus over it.

There'll be a great exodus of websites out of the US, 99% of websites still in the US will be blocked by the EU for violating their privacy laws, VPN use in the US will increase by 1500%, and every small website that allows user-uploaded images in the US will have to close their site because they don't have resources to comply with the law.
So say goodbye to the small hobby sites and message boards for RC planes, DIY home renovation, amateur nature photography, homebrew Atari games, fan comics, etc.

Shouldn't this be enough for non-voters to finally start caring about politics? Their indifference is partially why KOSA is happening to begin with. Also, do 4chan dwellers have no plans of threatening to withhold votes from the GOP if they push this bill?
