I think MTG is the most complex card game, but that's the only one I've played outside of. . .damn, what's it called? Hearthstone?

I checked back on Arena a few months ago, and it seemed like they had just completely ruined it by milking the fuck out of it. They had tons of sets for random crossovers and just seemed like it was tying to milk as much money as possible out of people.

I've been playing since the start and outside of a 1 time deal of like $10 I haven't used any real money to buy any of the packs, just the in-game gold and my 400+ Wild Cards to fill in what I want

that's just how MtG is in general nowadays. the most popular format by far is commander, and commander players love crossovers and stuff so now there are a billion crossovers

i got out when they switched to shorter lifespans for FNM and removed lightning strike and elvish mystic and all that.

also around the time they stopped uploading hi-res card images so the free online version, cockatrice, no longer worked. keep in mind, "cockatrice" didn't program in the MTG rules, it was more like tabletop simulator. you could try out decks before buying cards, and the hobby was still very very expensive.

so yea, fuck them and wizards in general. magic is a great a game, sucks that such a scummy company owns them.

also i hate commander

My biggest complaint about Arena has always been its focus on NEW stuff. I absolutely loved MTGO, as janky as it was, cuz you could play any format, however you wanted, or as limited as you wanted and w/ more than 2 players, even.

Arena looks nicer, but it loses all the fun of an actual card game - there's no secondary market, and it has all the awful, modern crap you'd expect w/ Battlepass, FOMO sales, etc...

I've also just kinda gotten over Magic, for the most part. Sold most of my cards a couple of years ago and maybe play w/ friends once or twice a year, mostly just to hang out w/ them, regardless of the game.

I got back into Arena, after being gone for quite a while. Built an Abzan lifegain deck for standard, I'm really liking it. It hopes to kill via Resplendent Angel and Sheoldred the Apocalypse.

Same. I only occasionally play MTG, bought myself 2 decks in a pack 15 years ago (Dragons VS Knights). Wanted to buy myself some more decks last year, go into a specialty store and all they had was the commander shit. Add to that the constant crossovers and one of those commander decks comes to double the amount I payed for 2 regular decks. Fuck that.

The last time I really caught up w/ the game at all was around Kaldheim. Had a really fun white and black angel deck. Rampage of the Valkyries is GOATed.

I dont have issues with the card, it just seems more than a Common

I wish MTG Arena wasn't PC/mobile only. I'd play it if they released it on Xbox or Switch.

I have it on my iPad as well, but I only play on my PC. Its on Steam now so it should work with the Steam Deck.

Considering Yugioh is a much faster game than MtG, that's surprising.

The printed card is actually a 1/3, Alchemy has some "rebalancing" to buff cards to try to mix things up (that's what the A on the card is).

Yeah commons are wordier these days but there are lots of commons that are "choose one of three minor effects" without the body attached, and I don't think this is a big leap in complexity over that.

I also play meme decks, so I'm not necessarily saying this is bad, but you gotta accept that sometimes you will just get totally rolled by people with more competitive decks

I was like, I didn't even make a post about my deck. But yeah, from the previous one. I have never complained about losing. I don't care if I lose every game I play. What I care about are people milling until they get the two card combo that is a Turn 2 kill

The card on the Left lets you put a dragon card into play if you attack with it while it has at least 6 Attack power. So it was Giant Growth, something else to get it up to 6, then the dragon came in with Haste and gave them both Double Strike. GG

A bunch of people were doing this that day. If they didn't get the combo, they quit out.

I can understand the sentiment behind farewell ban

there's way too many board clear effects floating around right now and that one is by far the most obnoxious

The only board wipe that was ever bannable was Terminus in legacy specifically because of the SDT interaction and being able to instant speed it for one mana.

I sold out my collection for 5k during the Collected Company standard meta. Also, I agree that Commander is garbage.

Commander is *easily* the worst way to play Magic.

Isn't Commander meant to be played as a multiplayer (+3 players) game?

I also hate commander, generally. It's fun SOMETIMES, but I wouldn't play it as my main format. I have friends who only do that, tho, and they even try to play their commander decks in non-commander games, which of course puts them at massive disadvantages lol, but whatever

I don't know man, I enjoy playing it casually with my group of friends. A lot of politics involved, which makes it even more fun. None of us do any of the broken shit, so that helps as well.

any format that has the objective to be "having an experience over winning" is not a good format

but beyond the gameplay sucking the commander community is abysmal

This is true. Before we were commander someone suggested we play Splendor while we waited. It was actually enjoyable, and we didn't end up hating each other.
