Numa Numa was before that, and I'm pretty sure even it wasn't first among internet memes.

In fact, the oldest example I can think of is... Saying the name is risky here, but a certian image involving a giant asshole...

I think the "Mr. T ate my balls" memes go back farther. Even if they don't, there was plenty of text-based buffoonery on BBSes and Usenet that would qualify.

Of course if you go by the broad definition, there are things from 100+ years or more ago like "shave and a haircut, two bits" that qualify as a meme.

But I do think the Kilroy one is probably the first real one. Or at least the earliest we still remember.

"Dr. Livingstone, I Presume?" predates Kilroy by like 100 years.

It made me a little giddy to see it used in Uncharted 4

No, it's not correct. Dancing baby is from 1996.

The term "internet meme" was coined in 1993, in reference to memes going around on message boards, Usenet, and email. Here is one of the first memes to catch on, a New Yorker cartoon from 1993:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/4/489a8896.jpg

This the first either, as there have been memes basically since the internet started existing.
