Don't have the second one and can't afford it right now, but I wanna cut something, so I could just play it...

What exactly was bitterback isle/the expansion? What I remember was it was just a boss rush

Was there anything else to it?

Common sense says it may not taste good, but it'll make a turd.

If you go into BBI early it plays like souls games with a dramatically more fun combat system

I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.

if i remember correctly doing BBI early required some set up

because you do at best single digit damage to the bosses and most beefier mobs without exploiting periapts and blast arrows.

It's a "descend through several levels with periodic checkpoints and shortcuts" sort of thing.

Couple of branching paths (I think) but mostly a straight shot.

It's got the best items and the hardest enemies, then you can do it again after the first successful attempt for the second version (harder enemies, different final boss).

It's not a straight up boss rush but you'll deal with a lot of unpleasant enemies.

Including but not limited to a 30 meter tall BDSM Cyclops, "We Have Beholders At Home," and straight up fuckin' Death himself.

I always do bbi after beating the base game so I have better weapons and stats.

You can do maybe the first 30% of BBI early on but then you'll start hitting a wall against certain enemies and you'll either have to run past them to get low level loot or wait until after you're way stronger so you can actually fight everything and get the high level loot.

Any "kill the mobs of this enemy" rooms or was it all bosses

I'm trying to decide how much I care about it

I don't really know why, either

It doesn't really have killing requirements WITH THE EXCEPTION OF three "floor" bosses that you have to beat to continue.

Like no "kill 10 Harpies to make the magic barrier drop" sort of thing, and you can Meep Meep past anyone who isn't a required boss.

The first safe room is a good example, it's got a couple basic enemies and a bunch of doors spread around, some of which just lead into a side room with loot and a boss. Some doors are locked, some aren't.

It absolutely has the best items in the game, including rings that let you use the strongest versions of individual skills.

Taking 2 hours to kill a big ass skeleton who wasn't even a real boss is one of my most fun gaming memories. Mr Bones made me rocket up a ton of levels and gave me the ability to grab some awesome gear that outclassed everything in the main game.

It's great.

I agree with a few of the criticisms, especially:

Kaiganeer posted...
a bunch of rng loot bullshit

But it's a well put-together dungeon with great fights, good gear, and the best atmosphere in the game.

Creeping through the first area at low levels feels like running the Tomb of Horrors with a team of level 1 Commoners.

Stupid ones.

Trying to decide if I do actually wanna pull this out the ol dust bin

That part of the mid game where everything is easy AF and the enemies don't change for like 30% of the game and die in like two hits. I remember it well

Yeah but you can smash through that part pretty quickly, and you'll still feel weak when you get to bbi.

There are two challenge arenas: Rotunda of Dread and Black Abbey. These can spawn an enemy that summons a group of one type of another enemy to attack you.
