From the most recent anime episode:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scPBmrzdD0g

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxCnJumDVw0

Just look at the quality of this animation, dude. Look at it. That's entirely without saying how hype the story has gotten (especially in the manga, with the anime soon to follow).

If you ever gave it a try back in the day and dropped it because it's too long/lost interest in the meandering nature of it, now's the time to catch up. Real shit is happening. Revelations almost a thousand chapters in the making are now coming to fruition. Huge characters hinted at from the very beginning are now making their moves.

This final saga is going to be incredible; it's already shaping up to be the best content in all of One Piece's history.

Just a public service announcement. Now's the time. You're not going to wanna miss what happens over the next few years.

Yeah, One Piece is amazing and this episode was great, love that they're putting in so much effort in the animation these days. I don't always like all the different styles but it's still really high quality animation.

I mostly read it, at this point. The anime is for highlights, such as this fight here. The anime pacing is truly awful most of the time, but when the animation hits like a truck I can't ignore it.

I like the Gear 5 animated stuff a lot, but half the time it devolves into very unreadable motion. The curated clips are great, and I understand how much of a budgeting issue it must be for the show.

That's because there have been some good payoffs here and there. This shit is the real shit, though. We're talking Vegapunk, Kuma, the Five Elders from the world government, Shanks, the Giants, Mihawk, Crocodile, Buggy, Garp, Blackbeard, etc. all making moves and driving the plot forward.

That's the thing, these high action episodes only happen once in awhile, so they can save their effort and budget for episodes like the clip above. The ones in between aren't crazy, though still pretty high actuality on average compared to the past.

I dunno man, I watched the wano arc and there were moments like this in SO many episodes, it started to get a bit dizzying. I used to think this was only possible with like, high budget 10-episode series, or movies.

I wasnt interested in one piece for a while after how bad whole cake was but gear 5 renewed my interest. Probably the coolest power up ever.

which is surprising compared to most other shonen protagonist like Ichigo that only get boring and basic ass aesthetic changes, little to no new abilitys and a stat boost.

For those of you guys who don't know, when the animation changes to be smoother it's what's called a "sakuga moment" when most of the budget gets pushed onto a specific fight scene for the important fights.

Most of the time they look really good, but the issue I'm having with Luffy Gear 5 stuff is that...most of it is incomprehensible. I have a very hard time following the action which is weird because Luffy Gear 5 is suppose to be Looney Tunes stuff, which is known for not only good animation but making sure every scene is visible enough to convey what it needs to show with a funny punchline. Well that was my head cannon when I saw Luffy Gear 5 when reading the manga, so it might just be a "me" problem.

I actually don't care for this type of animation with One Piece. It's jarring how the animation will change styles from ep to ep (and within the ep itself)

OP at its peak should look like Water 7/ Enies Lobby.

They brought on a ton of freelance animators during Wano's climax, even quite a few foreigners (heck the Kid/Law vs Big Mom episode was pretty much entirely made by western animators)

Well, this is what I meant by not liking some animators "styles", big episodes like the above usually have multiple animators working on them and you can tell when the animation type changes that it's someone else's section.

I dislike the section from 46-58 seconds. I don't like that guy's style very much and I think other animators portray Luffy's goofiness in Gear 5 better but ultimately it doesn't bother me that much because it still somewhat works with Luffy like this.

Remarkably solid. It's not really comparable to the anime, given the pacing and budgetary constraints, but for what it's got to work with it does a fantastic job.

Nah, you're right. The cut, cut, cut - especially around the 50 second mark - cheapens the animation. It's like Mob Psycho 100 -style without the great choreography.

The story of this arc has been absolute peak One Piece. You're missing out a lot. There's a few slow chapters while they explore the island to introduce some characters, then the plot hits HARD before the fights start getting real.

I followed along with the Wano plot, but it's the same fuckin' thing every time. People are oppressed and some great person died tragically in an effort to protect these people. There's a New Friend, a fight against the Oppressor, a lot of ugly crying, then they find some ostensibly plot related thing that feels mostly like an excuse to go do it all over again. I fell off around the time Chopper had his Big Plot, and not much has changed since.
