They can done right, but a lot people just dont get creative with it. They just take the easy answers (evil version of the hero).

Eh as batman said he just chose not to save him. Which is still out of character
He chose not to save him from the trainwreck that he caused, yeah. I get what the writers were going for--Ra's sacrificed sure footing for a killing stroke, which is a cool little plot thing, but even then, in the earlier scene that it was referencing, Ra's didn't just leave Bruce to freeze to death after knocking the ground out from under him, lol. I mean, I guess Bruce might have pulled himself out but still.

Movie batmans have tended to stray from his rule a few times. He killed Jack Nicholson joker didn't he? Then batfleck...

So hebfeels the only decision that can actually carry weight is to destroy the entire multiverse.

That wouldn't matter since there exists an alternate universe where he decides not to destroy the multiverse.

Eh no. He wants to go to the original universe at the beginning I believe and destroy it before decisions can be made.

But I see what you are saying. In the end he says it doesn't really matter when his plan is foiled and I assume it's because he assumes a alternate world we be made where he succeeds

I think this was confirmed by the writer. The moment they entered the original universe, a branch was created with them in it while the original universe is still unchanged.

I HATE multiverse and time traveling plot lines. Its a license to do whatever the fuck you want with the story instead of being creative.

oops I killed off the character and my story is boring now

nevermind they are back from an alternate universe

Multi universes absolutely reduces the stakes, and makes each individual less valuable.

It's like pulling a clone robot off the assembly line to replace your wife

I would disagree. Alt universe Barry Allen isn't the same Barry Allen. He's lived his own life has his own memories etc.

Like take gay snark from legends of tomorrow. He was clearly different from main university snark.

But an infinite multiverse means infinite exact clones of you.

And I mean exact. Down to what you thought this morning at 8:15:33 am.

It's not just about you vs your evil clone vs your ice clone.

Atom exact duplicates. Infinity of them.

A playground has a fence, because there are places that are no fun to go and will just bring you pain and despair.

All I'm saying is the fence needs to cut off this particular no-fun place of pain and despair.

i honestly dont care. theres good stories based on time travel such as 13 Sentinels and Steins;Gate
The key is finding a way to keep the stakes high that makes sense in the narrative
Yeah there's a lot of bad ones but just dont watch them

But it's not the same. If your say mother died and they clouded her and managed to get all her memories in there would you feel she was your mother?

I think at a point you become familiar enough with the illusion of fiction that it doesn't matter. Character dies, character comes back: it's just the resurrection trope. They couldn't resurrect themselves because they're not a Messianic figure, and the setting doesn't allow for necromancy, so they went with an alternate universe copy. In three episodes it won't matter if they're "the same one" anymore, because that was never the point.

Nah. I like them. The overuse of them and how low effort so many of them are is the main problem here.

I like them especially when they are more "what if" style stories.

How often do alt universe characters actually stick around permanently? They have other ways to bring characters back from the dead. Barry Allen out running death. Superman punching a hole in reality causing Jason to come back etc.

They generally don't stick around terribly often.

And if I'm being real, time travel bothers me way more than multiverse. Because most of the time, with time travel, the rules end up with the writer stubbing their toe somewhere.
