I got the HM Fly in Ruby today. Should I teach it to my Beautifly, or should I go all the way back to an earlier area and catch a Taillow?

Tropius, its a pretty good HM slave in general.

Alternatively, Pelipper is nice to have Surf and Fly on the same Pokemon

I found out that Beautifly can't learn Fly, even though it's a fucking butterfly. Flying and drinking nectar are like the only 2 things butterflies do.

This. Between Tropius and a water-type like Marill or Psyduck, you can cover all 8 HM's in Hoenn with only 2 Pokemon.

I used to have dedicated HM slaves. I decided it was too annoying to box/unbox everytime I needed the more useful ones (surf, fly).

I just get a strong pokemon and sacrifice a move, the games are easy enough as it is.
